“My Secret Guide to Being a Stylish Man”

Going all the way back to my childhood, I have always prided myself on my appearance. I had a father who was always well-dressed, whether he was wearing his police uniform or wearing a suit on Sunday for church. I had an older brother who was just as stylish, and I even used to sneak and wear his clothes.

As I grew older, I began to develop my own style.

For me, it was less about trends and more about sustainability. Men’s clothes don’t change that much from season to season, so I make sure that my wardrobe is filled with options that I can mix and match throughout the year, no matter the season. Every man needs to have their staples for every season. For me, my staples are v-neck sweaters in the fall, cardigan sweaters in the winter, white sneakers in the spring and v-neck tees in the summer.

In order to be a stylish man, remember this one key rule: quality over quantity.

To have quality clothes and accessories for your wardrobe, doesn’t require a lot money. Don’t be fooled by the social media models you see, as chances are they are being sponsored by brands and or given those items in exchange for writing a blog entry or posting on their social channels…or maybe they just spend a lot of money on clothes. But you can be just as stylish, as long as you remember this one hidden secret…

BUY YOUR CLOTHES OUT OF SEASON!

And here is how you do it in four easy steps:

  1. Make a wishlist of clothes and accessories that you would like to have in your wardrobe, and keep that list accessible. My list stays on my phone in an app I use for personal projects and work projects, called Evernote.
  2. Subscribe to email newsletters of retailers you like, and whose clothes fit you well. You don’t have to read all of their newsletters, but you can use their communication with you as a reminder, as often times they may send you a deal that you can’t pass up.
  3. When you start making purchases for your wardrobe, you should be buying for one or two seasons ahead, and not for the current season. Sure there might be some deals you can’t pass up on, but the winter time is the perfect time for you to stock up on spring and summer gear, because it is super cheap and most of it is on clearance.
  4. Learn how to be patient with your purchases. Sometimes the weather changes where it gets unseasonably warm or cold and you might get excited to wear that new out of season purchase, but if you can, hold off until the season comes so that you can get the most wear out of it.

Hopefully, this will give you some ideas on improving your wardrobe and increasing your style. Best of luck!
